Initially, Apple planned to limit production to between 5 and 6 million units, but growing demand has led the company to revise its plans.

According to Tim Culpan, a well-informed Taiwanese journalist, Apple is already in discussions with its suppliers to develop an improved version of the MacBook Neo. This model could benefit from the A19 Pro chip, found in the iPhone 17 Pro range, as well as an increase in RAM from 8 to 12 GB. This update aims to harmonize the technical specifications of the MacBook Neo with those of the latest versions of the iPhone.

Production challenges and Apple’s strategic choices

The success of the MacBook Neo places Apple in a dilemma. The A18 Pro chips, described as “binned,” are components that did not fully meet the quality criteria required for iPhones but remain functional. Apple used them in the MacBook Neo to optimize its production costs. However, stocks of these chips are running out, forcing the company to consider new orders from TSMC, which could affect its profit margins.

Faced with this situation, Apple must decide whether to continue production, at the risk of having to cut its margins, or to stop it, which could disappoint an already acquired clientele and push them towards Windows alternatives.

Apple’s strategy against Windows competition

While the production of the MacBook Neo could stop, Apple must also address the growing competition from Windows computers. In recent years, Windows devices have gained popularity due to their diversity and advantageous value for money. Apple will therefore need to redouble its efforts to maintain its position in the laptop market and continue to innovate to attract increasingly demanding consumers.
