Unlock Family Link without the parental code: tips and solutions

Family Link code

Family Link is a parental control tool developed by Google that allows parents to supervise their children’s smartphone usage. With this application, it is possible to set screen time limits, block certain apps, and monitor online activity. However, some young people seek to bypass these restrictions to regain free access to their phone.

Before examining the methods to bypass Family Link, it is important to remember that this application was designed to be difficult to disable. Its goal is to prevent young users from changing settings without parental consent. Moreover, some manipulations can lead to significant data loss or security risks for the device.

Why is Family Link difficult to bypass?

Family Link works by linking the child’s device to a supervised Google account. Thanks to this connection, the parent can remotely control authorized apps, screen time, and other important settings.

The imposed restrictions concern several aspects:

  • Screen time limitation, with automatic locking once the maximum duration is reached.
  • Blocking certain apps, preventing the child from opening them without permission.
  • Control of downloads, requiring the child to ask for parental consent to install a new app.
  • Location tracking, allowing parents to see where the phone is in real-time.

Some young people try to bypass these restrictions, but the solutions are not always effective and can have significant consequences.

Methods to bypass Family Link (and their limitations)

One solution is to remove the Google account associated with Family Link from the phone settings. However, this action results in the loss of all data linked to the account, including contacts, emails, Google Drive files, and app backups.

Moreover, if the account is removed without parental consent, Family Link automatically blocks access to the device, making the phone unusable until a supervised account is reconnected.

Factory reset of the phone

Some young people consider resetting the device to factory settings, which completely erases Family Link. This method works, but it also erases all personal data on the phone, including photos, messages, installed apps, and saved settings.

Another important limitation: after a reset, Google may detect that the device was supervised by Family Link and require parental account credentials to be reactivated. If this information is not entered, the device remains locked.

Using a VPN or proxy

Using a VPN or proxy is sometimes considered to bypass certain restrictions, especially screen time control and app blocking. However, this method is ineffective, as Family Link does not rely on a specific IP address to function.

Furthermore, some free VPNs can pose a risk to personal data security, exposing the device to malware or information theft.

Using secure folders on Samsung devices

Samsung smartphones offer a feature called Secure Folder, which allows creating a protected space with its own apps and settings. Some young people try to install apps in this folder to bypass the restrictions imposed by Family Link.

This solution is, however, temporary, as soon as Family Link detects unusual usage, the parent receives a notification and can block access to the folder.

Deleting data from the Google Play Store

Family Link partly operates through Google services, including the Play Store and Google Play Services. By deleting data from these apps in the phone settings, some restrictions can be temporarily lifted.

However, this action does not completely disable Family Link, as soon as the phone is connected to the internet, parental control settings are automatically restored.
